‘Sport can provide so many benefits for children and young people, from supporting their health and development to giving them opportunities to make friendships and build teamworking skills. Through our strong partnerships with our funders and sports organisations over the last 25 years, NSPCC Sport has played a key role in developing safeguarding practices across the sport sector to create safer cultures for children and young people, and our volunteers are now helping us to take this work even further.’
Recognising and speaking out about concerns in sport can be tricky for young participants and their families. Our NSPCC Sport Event Volunteers aim to help them to recognise concerns and feel empowered to act.
As an NSPCC Sport Insights Volunteer you will help us to support the sport and physical activity sector to create a caring culture where children and young people feel safe and able to thrive.
Whilst you don’t need to be sporty, you will be passionate about helping children and young people feel and be safe in sport and physical activities.
Our NSPCC Sport Event Volunteers attend events in their local area and help children, young people and their families understand what safe sport and physical activity looks like and what to do if they have concerns.
You will mingle and chat with participants and spectators, share key messages and our bank of resources for parents and carers. You will promote safeguarding as a team effort and empower those with worries to speak out.
You’ll get to work with others who share your values and are committed to making a difference. Shifts vary but are generally around 2-4 hours.
Our NSPCC Sport Insights Volunteers do vital work helping us to measure safeguarding culture in sports organisations. They work remotely and flexibly from home and conduct web-based research and secret shopper style tasks. This insight means that we can better direct our support and services to improve safeguarding culture for children and young people who participate in sport at all levels.
