“Since the Child Protection in Sport Unit was formed, there have been considerable developments within safeguarding across the sport sector. This is due to the great work of the staff and volunteers within sports organisations striving to create safer cultures and environments for children and young people, but the work continues, and the Unit remains essential today. Our aim is to ensure that children and young people are protected in and through sport and activity, and our volunteers will help us to do this.”
Recognising and speaking out about concerns in sport can be tricky for young participants and their families. Our Safe in Sport Event Volunteers aim to help them to recognise concerns and feel empowered to act.
As an Insights Volunteer you will help us to support the sport and physical activity sector to create a caring culture where children and young people feel safe and able to thrive.
Whilst you don’t need to be sporty, you will be passionate about helping children and young people feel and be safe in sport and physical activities.
Our Safe in Sport Event Volunteers attend events in their local area and help children, young people and their families understand what safe sport and physical activity looks like and what to do if they have concerns.
You will mingle and chat with participants and spectators, share key messages and our bank of resources. You will promote safeguarding as everyone’s responsibility and empower those with worries to speak out.
You will get to work with others who share your values and are committed to making a difference. Shifts vary but are generally around 4-5 hours.
Our Insights Volunteers do vital work helping us to measure safeguarding culture in sports organisations. They work remotely and flexibly from home and conduct web-based research and other tasks. This insight means that we can better direct our support and services to improve safeguarding culture for children and young people who participate in sport at all levels.
