This is your chance to be part of a defining moment in shaping the future of our NSPCC Helplines.

Here at the NSPCC, we've been protecting children for over 100 years, doing everything we can to prevent abuse and neglect and giving expert support to help children recover.

We have recently begun a technology transformation programme for our NSPCC Helpline and Childline services that represents one of the most significant technology upgrades to these services in the history of the NSPCC. AI will be a vital enabler of these new systems, helping our front-line staff to be more efficient and effective, and to ultimately transform how we help even more children and young people feel listened to, supported, and kept safe.

This is your chance to personally make a positive difference for thousands of children and young people every year.

Alongside working with a wide variety of stakeholders, from service users to those on the frontline of our services, we're looking for people who want to be part of a dedicated team to support these programmes with the design, build, test and implementation of their new technology solutions

We're currently recruiting for a full time, fixed term Data Scientist with a focus on Machine Learning.

We're currently recruiting for 1 full time, fixed term position in our Data & Analytics Hub that will support both the Helplines and Services Technology Transformation programmes. The position will run until end of April 2026.

You will support the NSPCC to be more effective and efficient in how we help children and young people through the use of generative AI throughout our Helplines services.

The post-holder will develop, test, and deploy a range of generative AI solutions. Our priority is to focus on models that enable staff and volunteers to spend more time on where they add the most value (directly talking to children, young people or the adults concerned about them, or supporting each other to do so)

This role will be home-based, but the post holder will be expected to undertake business travel as required, specifically to our London office to support the Helplines Technology Transformation Programme.

We're looking for talented people who value putting children first:

To be successful in this role, you will need to be someone who

  • Has previous experience as a data scientist or ML engineer– we're looking for someone who can hit the ground running, who is confident in Python, SQL, and has experience in deploying ML models and frameworks.
  • Can make the complex simple – we're looking for people who are great communicators, with a passion for data and technology and the ability what the right models or approach to meeting the business needs will be.

Please refer to the job description for a full person specification. We ask all candidates to address and evidence that they meet each of the 8 points in the person specification in their supporting statement (within a total word limit of 10,000 characters).

If you would like any further information about the role, please contact Kate Brand (Head of Data & analytics) at Kate.Brand@nspcc.org.uk

The NSPCC is committed to equality and diversity and wants to attract a range of talented people. The NSPCC fully supports the rights and opportunities of all staff to seek, obtain and hold employment and to enjoy equal employment opportunities without discrimination.

Please note we are recruiting on a rolling recruitment basis for this role. Applications will be reviewed immediately and if successful at shortlisting will be invited to interview prior to the closing date.

Working in the Technology and Data team The application process

Safer Recruitment

As an organisation, we are committed to creating and fostering a culture that promotes safeguarding and the welfare of all children and adults at risk. Our safer recruitment practices support this by ensuring that there is a consistent and thorough process of obtaining, collating, analysing and evaluating information from and about candidates to ensure that all persons appointed are suitable to work with our children and adults.

Trauma Informed

At the NSPCC we are on a journey to becoming a trauma-informed organisation for the children, young people and families that we work with, as well as our staff and volunteers. To be trauma-informed is one of the guiding principles that shape and guide our 2021-2031 Strategy. This means understanding the nature of adversity, trauma, and resilience so that we can work towards reducing and preventing further harm and promoting recovery and healing. Coming to work at the NSPCC will provide the opportunity for you to join us in our commitment to becoming a trauma-informed organisation.
