About Services

We work directly with children and families in our national and regional hubs across the UK and Channel Islands, with presence in London, Nottingham, Stoke-on-Trent, Grimsby, Leeds, Belfast, Foyle, Liverpool, Glasgow, Plymouth, Swindon, Cardiff and Jersey. We also give support to thousands of adults and young people in need through the NSPCC Helpline and Childline.

We work with schools up and down the country through our Speak Out Stay Safe programme, helping children to keep themselves safe. And our projects such as Together for Childhood help children who’ve experienced abuse, support parents, and work to transform the way communities come together to prevent child cruelty.

Our teams

This is by far our largest directorate, employing the largest number of our people – with approximately 900 staff and volunteers based all over the UK. The Services directorate has a number of specialist roles and skillsets as this is where a lot of frontline work happens. It is also where work is evaluated, quality assured and reported on at a corporate level. Therefore, we are looking for people with all sorts of experience, including those that have experience of working with children. We have lots of roles available for people at all stages of their career. Find out more about where we are based and the projects we work on.

What we’re looking for

Communication skills

This refers to qualities that help you communicate with and work well with others, including listening actively, understanding the needs of others, managing your emotions and interpreting non-verbal communication such as body language.

Initiative

Having initiative means that you can take action independently without having to be told what to do. A person that shows initiative has the confidence to be the first person to respond to a potential opportunity or crisis rather than relying on others to assume responsibility.

Drive and determination

Having drive and determination indicates that you are goal-oriented and willing to invest a lot of effort into your work to accomplish your objectives and overcome challenges. Candidates who possess this quality tend to enjoy their jobs and contribute to a productive and positive environment by showing passion and dedication for their work.

Willingness to learn

Being willing to learn new skills shows that you're motivated to develop yourself and grow in your career. Demonstrating your willingness to learn can let employers know that you are coachable and motivated to take on new challenges to become as qualified and proficient in your role as possible.

Teamwork skills

Teamwork skills have to do with your ability to work with others in a team. This includes how you handle tasks such as collaboration, resolving group conflicts and sharing responsibilities. Working harmoniously in a team environment is an essential skill as almost every job involves working with other people to achieve common goals and objectives.

Flexibility

Being flexible refers to your ability to effectively adapt to change when needed. Flexibility is important because industries and roles are constantly changing due to factors such as new technology, competition, and changing customer expectations.
