Head of Philanthropy – NSPCC

Salary £65k - £75k

FTC 15 months

Location: Hybrid - flexible to home working with regular work from London office

At the NSPCC, our mission is clear: to end cruelty to children. Within the Income Generation Directorate, our aim is to maximise resources for the NSPCC's mission by raising funds, providing the best possible supporter experience, and inspiring long-term relationships between supporters of all kinds and our cause. We rely on the generosity of supporters across the UK for 90% of our annual income, with around half of our voluntary income coming from individuals who give regular donations

Are you a visionary and experienced leader with a passion for philanthropy? Do you have the drive to make a real difference in the lives of children and young people? If so, we want you to join our team as the Head of Philanthropy. In this role you will sustain the strengths in statutory, trust and foundation fundraising, whilst giving focus to reviewing and growing our personal philanthropy offering. Leading by example in securing major funding and enabling transformational giving for services that will keep children safe from abuse.

Our local and national services for children, including Childline, offer unique opportunities for major philanthropists, trusts, and funding organisations to make a transformational difference to the lives of children and young people. The challenges facing children today are significant, and this role connects donors to the life changing solutions to those difficulties.

The Major Giving department at the NSPCC focuses on three audiences:

  • Major Donor Individuals
  • Trusts & Foundations
  • Statutory Funding

As Head of Philanthropy , you will motivate, guide, challenge and support the brilliant team of specialist fundraisers to capitalise on emerging opportunities to engage high net worth individuals with the charity. The teams are expertly resourced by our Supporter Management team, delivering prospect research, due diligence, donor communications, and stewardship events to ensure the optimum supporter experience is created.

This is a hugely exciting time to lead our Major Giving team, having doubled its income over the last five years, securing one of the largest ever gifts to the NSPCC in the last year. New opportunities lie ahead with planned appeals, new propositions and a newly established endowment fund to name a few. Maintaining growth and success through appointing an ambitious and strong leader is paramount.

If you are a talented fundraiser, with substantial experience philanthropic fundraising, stakeholder management and supporter development, personally securing gifts at 6, 7 and 8-figure level who has:

  • The authenticity and credibility to establish and grow lasting donor relationships and be an advocate for the NSPCC
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to influence and negotiate; liaise with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, enabling great collaboration across the charity, and someone who can prioritise a workload effectively.
  • Excellent organisational skills and great attention to detail.

If this sounds like you, join us! In return you'll become part of a team that cares about the work they do and the people they work with. You'll discover opportunities to grow, along with challenges and a shared purpose that'll bring the best out in you. And you'll get to find your own way to make a difference that means more, and that impacts millions of young lives.

The role will entail significant cross-department and cross-directorate work, as well as collaboration with peers and colleagues at all levels across the organisation. The role is a hybrid, meaning there is a high degree of flexibility to work from home with an expectation to work from our London office on a weekly basis. There is a requirement to be able to travel to donor meetings, team-based meetings and training, so you must reside in the UK, have the correct right to work documents to work in the UK.
