Information Specialist (Library)

Information Specialist – Full time, 35 hours per week

The NSPCC’s Knowledge and Information Service is the most comprehensive resource on safeguarding and child protection in the UK. Through our website, NSPCC Learning, we provide information and resources to support anyone working or volunteering with children and young people. Our specialist library contains a wide selection of UK and international materials on child protection, safeguarding, child abuse, child neglect and related topics. We also answer over a thousand enquiries every year, supporting the NSPCC in its work and helping professionals and the public find the information and resources they need to keep children safe.

We are seeking a qualified information professional to join our team to help us to manage and develop our library collections, to catalogue and index materials, to write abstracts, and to work as part of our duty enquiries team. Other duties will include delivering inductions to NSPCC staff, participating in the development of the library catalogue, and supporting the delivery, development and promotion of our highly regarded Library and Information Service.

We are looking for someone with knowledge or experience of cataloguing; experience of searching a variety of bibliographic databases and web resources; the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely for different audiences; great attention to detail; a flexible attitude, willingness to learn, and a commitment to keeping children safe.

Experience of working in a library or information service at a professional post-qualification level would be advantageous. We provide an extensive induction programme for all new starters and ongoing training to support the development of specialist child protection subject knowledge.

This rewarding role will offer you the opportunity to develop your information skills; to be proactive and work independently, leading on small projects; and, to be part of a supportive and professional team making a real difference to the lives of children.

Although the role will be based in our London office, the team are currently working remotely due to Covid-19.
