Ready to make a difference in children's lives?

Every childhood is worth fighting for. This is our belief. It drives us. And it motivates our Strategy, Policy and Evidence teams to maintain our position as an influential, informed and powerful voice for change.

We're looking for an inspiring Policy and Public Affairs Manager to join us on a fixed term contract to cover a period of maternity leave. It's an exciting opportunity to lead a small team working across early years and health at a time of renewed political focus on the importance of early childhood.

In this key role, you'll work to make sure policy frameworks and laws are fit for purpose in preventing and tackling child abuse and neglect. You will lead colleagues to deliver high-quality policy research and drive influencing strategies that create real change, ensuring the NSPCC remains a credible and authoritative voice on early years, health, and child protection.

You'll need to demonstrate strong leadership skills, particularly in managing high-performing teams in a fast-paced policy environment. With excellent communication and advocacy skills, you'll be confident engaging with senior internal stakeholders, government officials, and sector experts to influence decisions that protect children from harm.

We also reward our people by offering a great working environment, being part of a friendly and supportive team, and offering stimulating and challenging work with plenty of development opportunities.  We offer a variety of benefits including generous annual leave, flexible working, employee benefits and assistance programme, pension and life assurance schemes.

Join us and you'll become part of a team that cares about the work they do and the people they work with. You'll discover opportunities to grow, along with challenges and a shared purpose that'll bring the best out in you. And you'll get to find your own way to make a difference that matters, and that impacts millions of young lives.

We're happy to consider secondment opportunities for this role.

Working in the Strategy team The application process

Safer Recruitment

As an organisation, we are committed to creating and fostering a culture that promotes safeguarding and the welfare of all children and adults at risk. Our safer recruitment practices support this by ensuring that there is a consistent and thorough process of obtaining, collating, analysing and evaluating information from and about candidates to ensure that all persons appointed are suitable to work with our children and adults.

Trauma Informed

At the NSPCC we are on a journey to becoming a trauma-informed organisation for the children, young people and families that we work with, as well as our staff and volunteers. To be trauma-informed is one of the guiding principles that shape and guide our 2021-2031 Strategy. This means understanding the nature of adversity, trauma, and resilience so that we can work towards reducing and preventing further harm and promoting recovery and healing. Coming to work at the NSPCC will provide the opportunity for you to join us in our commitment to becoming a trauma-informed organisation.
